Full Disclosure for Academia

There’s a new ruling in Illinois that says that universities cannot keep from the public the details of contracts. Clearly, there are implications for contracts for presidents and other high-ranking officials (how much did that furniture cost?).

What about the rank-and-file? Will it increase or decrease faculty incentives to test the market? My guess: it will hurt schools like UIUC more than other schools when competing for and retaining faculty; all schools will be hurt when it comes to competing for top leadership.
