Show Me the Money

Michael Faure (of Metro at Maastricht) recently published a paper in Law & Policy that compares American and European approaches to financial compensation for the victims of catastrophes. As he puts it:

The (first-party) insurance solution is compared with public intervention, and a distinction is made between ad hoc government relief on an ex-post basis and structural compensation funds.

Here’s what I like about this paper: we’re learning by comparison, it’s driven by theory, it shows that policy and law are entwined, and it’s an example of the changing nature of Law & Policy, a journal which has lagged but is being revitalized by the publisher and editors.

I’d love to hear about other journals that are also changing to meet the way law, policy, and the social sciences are converging – especially those that are peer-reviewed.
