Do people really know anything about the US Supreme Court? Redux

September 4, 2007 · Leave a Comment

A while back we had posted on Jim Gibson and Greg Caldeira’s paper “Knowing About Courts.” In the paper they argue that people know more about SCOTUS than had previously been thought and that the nature of questions traditionally used to determine knowledge of the Court were problematic and possibly led to misleading results.  Yet somehow, I don’t think that the case study set forth below would have come out any differently with closed-ended questions.

To be fair, she has a relatively good command of Snow White’s Dwarves and I could only name four of them. Andy couldn’t name any;  erroneously coming up with just one – me – but I think that he was just being mean spirited ;-)
